Idwal isn't the most common Welsh name. There's a record of an Idwal Owain Griffith marrying Alice Godfrey Isaac (daughter of TW Player Isaac of Barton Court) in Abingdon in 1909 and this is almost certainly the sender of this card. Idwal worked at the University of Oxford where he studied physics, astronomy, and spectroscapy. During the First World War he served in the Royal Flying Corps and RAF where he developed early night flying techniques. His obituary describes him has showing "sweet reasonableness and a patience" and that he enjoyed golf "where he was no mean performer".
