I'm never quite able to work out what's going on with the figure in the foreground of this photograph - it looks like there may have been some alteration of the photograph before printing. Several of the shops can be identified: Thomas Hodnett, a Grocer on the right at #16, The silversmith and antique shop in #2 (would become Braggs), The shop with "..TY ..ICE" is King, Adkin and Bowen at #10 who are still in business in Wantage. Sign actually reads "COUNTY FIRE OFFICE LTD", the Lion Hotel on the left is the oldest secular building in Abingdon.
